Construction of a new harbour

Subsidy: 300,000 DKK (approx. €40,223) = 17% of total cost.

Duration: 1 June 2008 – 1 June 2009.

Recipient: Hjarnø Island Harbour Association.

Project summary: The lack of a harbour makes boat-owning impractical for Hjarnø inhabitants. Tourists are also unable to moor boats on the island, reducing the potential for overnight stays on the island. The Association received a subsidy to build a small new harbour.


 


 
Quality upgrade for campsite


Subsidy:
250,000 DKK (approx. €33,500) = 40% of total cost.

Duration: 1 May 2008 – 1 January 2009.

Recipient: Hjarnø Campsite

Project summary: In an effort to attract tourists seeking greater comfort and more rewarding experiences, the Hjarnø Island campsite received a subsidy towards building two luxury chalets and the purchase of a number of kayaks.


 



Enriching island family life with activities

Subsidy: 140,200 DKK (approx. €18,800) = 38% of total cost.

Duration: 1 May 2008 – 1 July 2009.

Recipient: Aarø Island Residents Association.

Project summary: Efforts to attract more family settlement to Aarø Island are hindered by the lack of places or activities geared specifically towards children.

The Association received a subsidy for refurnishing activity rooms for kids, arranging roll-playing games and other activities that appeal to young families. The subsidy also goes towards promotion aimed at potential settlers.



 

Improving production facilities

Subsidy: 321,000 DKK (approx. €45,700) = 40% of total cost.

Duration: 1 May 2008 – 1 May 2009.

Recipient: Øhavet Aps (limited liability company) on Strynø Island.

Project summary: Producer of high-quality organic jams made chiefly from locally-grown fruit, Øhavet Aps required funding to improve its facilities so as to produce three new types of jam.

The subsidy supports the construction of a newer, larger warehouse, a staff room, freezer insulation and solar panelling.




Lighthouse art exhibition

Subsidy: 46,125 DKK (approx. €6,183) = 50% of total cost.

Duration: 1 May 2008 – 1 November 2008.

Recipient: Malene Pedersen, Anholt Island artist and exhibition organiser.

Project summary: Held in the island's lighthouse, a 4-artist group exhibition strengthens the island's cultural identity, attracts tourists and helps develop the local artist's own business.

New outdoor centre for families


Subsidy:
378,00 DKK (approx. €50,685) = 20% of total cost.

Duration: 1 September 2008 – 31 August 2009.

Recipient: Fur Island Parish Council

Project summary: The Council would like to attract young families to the island, and wish to build an open-air play centre.

The play area will include an 18-hole crazy golf course, a skateboard area with two ramps, a boules area, a sports pitch, a children's play area, as well as benches and tables. The subsidy goes towards construction work, equipment, signage and advertising.


 


 

Island retreat launch

Subsidy: 100,000 DKK (approx. €13,406) = 50% of total cost.
Duration: 1 July 2008 – 30 June 2009.
Recipient: Drejø Island Residents Association

Project summary: As part of their efforts to attract visitors and new inhabitants, Drejø Island Residents Association are creating a fully-provisioned retreat.

As a first step, the Association has established a project planning team. The subsidy goes towards architectural assistance with the prospectus, fundraising, and other consultancy services.
